Interregional Cooperation in the Field of Water Resources and their Efficient use in Agriculture (On the Example of Central Asian Countries)

Abstract

About 80% of the total water resources used in the country are transboundary rivers. This underscores the importance of interregional cooperation for the sustainable management of water resources in Central Asia, particularly in the Republic of Uzbekistan.


Intensive use of water resources in Central Asia began mainly in the last 60 years. It is characterized by population growth, industrial development, expansion of irrigated areas. In general, more than 90% of the total water resources in the region are used to irrigate agricultural lands.
